Greetings from Tanzania!

Well, I’ve arrived in Tanzania on Tuesday, accompanying to Barrick folks as they prepare to take over the world, or at least the company I work for. They’ve acquired 81% of the shares, so our asses basically belong to them now.

I’ve been to Tanzania before, but the last time was to implement some really cool stuff into their network, to make it more robust, reliable and safe/secure.

This time round, it was in support of the site, to see what has changed, and to teach the Barrick appointed consultant on the standing of things. So far, there has been no indication of their plans for our office, and as a result, I don’t know if I have a job.

So Monday, I have an interview to go to with a company that got hold of my CV from somewhere and contacted me for an interview. Let’s see how it goes, shall we? They seem to be a rather busy firm, and methinx that it might be a good offer to consider, since they seem to be world travellers as well. And working for a consultation firm, you basically get to do quite a bit more than the average corporate based IT guys.

Yeah, I’ll be very busy, but I also can’t handle just sitting around all day.

As long as the travels aren’t for like 4 weeks at a time, I’m okay with it anyway. I’ve never seen the need to be away from home for such extended periods of time just for the sake of it, it’s not necessary.

Well, I’ll be leaving the site soon, embarking on my journey home again. Paul and Justin have left for two other mine sites that belong to Barrick, I was invited along, but I didn’t think that I could add any real value to the visit in any way, so I’m headed for home. It’s a chartered flight to Arusha, where I will be staying in the Impala hotel. Tomorrow, I’m off to Kilimanjaro international airport, to Dar Es Salaam on a local flight, wait for 4 hours, and then it’s SAA to go home.

I miss my home.
